They say if you can play jazz you can play anything. Since completing the jazz studies program at the Juilliard School Kris Bowers has shown his versatility in composition and performance with Jay-Z, Kanye West, and more. Most recently he composed the score to the Oscar winning film, Green Book. Beforehand, he was hired to score Netflix’s Dear White People and will be returning for its third season.
Jonathan Bingham began a career in the hip-hop industry as a producer and even got behind the mic himself a few times. It was sampling cues from the Star Wars soundtracks that lead him to pursuing classical composition and film scoring. After receiving degrees from Howard University and New York University in composition he composed the music for several indie films and was commissioned by the Arapahoe Philharmonic, Boulder Symphony, as well as a number of chamber groups such as the JACK Quartet and Invoke.
With a graduate degree from New York University Jessie Montgomery has maintained writing opportunities from the Albany Symphony, the Joyce Foundation, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the Young People’s Chorus of NY. She is apart of the New York Philharmonic’s Project 19 which will include 19 world premieres by women composers. Montgomery resides in New York City and continues to educate in master classes across the country.
Jonathan Bailey Holland is the first composer to hold a residency with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Prior to this he’d been commissioned by the Atlanta, Cleveland, Dallas, and Detroit Symphonies. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music and Harvard University.
Conductor and composer Evan Williams has seen international success having his work performed in the United States, Canada, and Europe. He’s been commissioned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and has held teaching positions at Lawrence University, Bennington College, and at The Walden School’s Young Musicians Program.
If you were an audience member of Jordan Peele’s blockbuster film, Us, then you heard the music of Michael Abels. Before meeting Peele, Abels had received commissions from the Phoenix Symphony and Los Angeles Opera. Peele hired Abels to compose the score to Get Out after hearing his piece Urban Legends.
